The next will be held on Saturday,12 October 2024 (please note this has been deferred by one week this month due to a number of members attending the Siding Spring Observatory Open Day on 5 October). THIS MONTH WILL FEATURE TWO PRESENTATIONS:
- 6:00 PM - Chris Wilde - Measuring Astronomical Distances. By knowing the distance to an object we can learn about its true size. To work out its actual size or mass we then need to know both how far away it is and its luminosity, or redshift in the case of extremely distant objects. TRAC member Chris Wilde’s second lecture on this subject will continue this important exploration of one of the fundamental aspects of astronomy.
- 7:00 PM - Gilmour Space Technologies. Gilmour Space Technologies is the leading launch services company in Australia, providing valuable access to space to their global commercial and defence customers. Backed by some of the country's biggest investors, Gilmour Space is tracking to launch its Eris orbital launch vehicles and G-Sat small satellite bus/platforms to Low Earth Orbits (LEO) from 2024. TRAC are fortunate to have one of the actual Gilmore rocketry team to present this evening’s lecture.
- 8.00 pm Telescope Viewing (weather cooperating!). We'll have optical viewing telescopes and the 34 in Hewitt Camera looking at Galaxies, Nebula, Clusters, Comets etc. Don't forget to bring a warm jacket! Tea/coffee/biscuits/drinks (token charges).
- Every third Sunday of the month from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm along with the Tamworth and District Model Engineers miniature railway public running days.
Admission to the Centre is $5.00 per adult, school students and TRAC members free.
